weekly three.

April 29, 2016

It has been another weird week since Wednesday felt like Friday because Peter came home from a work trip mid week. That is definitely not normal around here, but we have loved it. I actually cooked meals the past two nights and cleaned our house like crazy. It is crazy how I want to be all "housewife-ish" when he is home. It is good for everyone, trust me! This weekend is a busy one since we are driving to Duluth, GA to spend some time with family. Hope you all have a pretty weekend!!!

back on my morning shakes and loving it!

I was so excited to hang my Letterfolk in our back hallway and also add some of my
favorite pictures from our trip to Chicago. I have a few more ideas for that little space!!

yummy porkchops for dinner, using this recipe, thanks to my cousin Meghan for sharing it!

Momma & Solomon.

April 26, 2016

I asked a sweet friend to come over and take some six month pictures of Solomon because I wanted to capture his sweet little personality during this season. I was so thankful when she said she could. With our busy schedules we almost ended up with seven month pictures but who cares, he seems to get cuter every day anyways.

When I thought about capturing some photos during this season of life, I knew I wanted to get some pictures of our every day moments as momma and son. I think about the future a lot, that is just part of who I am... I'm a planner to the core, but I constantly think about his future now as well. I think about his first day of school. The first time he gets hurt and needs stitches, because knowing his wild little self, it will happen eventually. The first trip away from home at night. The moment that he gives his heart to Christ, God willing. His first date. Leaving for college. His wedding day. All those things run through my mind every single day. It sounds tiring, doesn't it?? Surprisingly, it isn't. It makes my heart so happy to think about all the days that will fill his future and I pray that he will want to share them with me and his daddy. That he will look at us, and see a friend, as well as a parent.

The years ahead are going to fly by, just like the past seven months have. That is why I want to capture these moments. Capture that big toothless grin since it is already gone. Capture the way his little hands are always searching for something to hold on to. I want to freeze time so I can always remember his pudgy baby belly and those sweet dimples on his cheeks. I especially want to remember the sweet way he always wants to nurse, even if it's just for a couple of sips, when I lay down on the bed with him. No matter what time of day or night, he loves to curl up beside me and feel the comfort that only I can give him. That is my favorite part of motherhood so far, being his comfort.

I was so thankful for my mom while we were away in Chicago last week for the family wedding, because she was going to stay with Solomon while we were at the reception. I was excited to have some baby free time and enjoy the dinner, dancing and fun with Peter and the family. I did the normal checking in to make sure all was okay, but after about four hours, he had enough and needed his momma. I can't explain the feeling I had in those moments of driving back to the hotel to be with him. He had cried for 15 minutes straight before my mom gave in and called me, which I'm so thankful she did, but it was confirmation in a way. He needs me. A sippy cup can't replace me. Once I got back to the room and started to nurse him he was overcome with joy. He laughed and giggled in between sips of milk and the happiness that I saw in his eyes made me heart melt.

I can't help but think that this is what motherhood is all about. Thinking about their future, and their life now, in everything we do. Our children are a part of us. They take up a spot in our heart that we will never give away. No matter how big they get. That is why I want to capture these memories and these moments. My heart is in these words and these photos. Motherhood..... man, it is so hard but so good, and I thank God every single day for giving me the challenge and opportunity to experience it.

yard work.

April 25, 2016

I've never been one to enjoy yard work, but sitting on a blanket with my baby and watching "dada" plant the garden..... that is nice! We had such perfect weather over the weekend and it was a great time to plant our veggies. I'm so excited to watch them grow and make food for Solomon with our home grown vegetables this year! Peter and I both don't like fresh tomatoes, so I'm really hoping that Solomon likes them, that way he can help eat them this year. They tend to go to waste since we don't make a lot with them, but I really want to learn how to can salsa and pasta sauce this year! It's so fun to watch our garden grow and eat the food, if only I wasn't so afraid of stepping on a snake in that jungle of a garden!

those chunky baby feet.... kill me.
& I'm glad I didn't buy any salad mix for this week because all that lettuce below needs to be cut!

saying hello to the last two girls we have....

yup, these kind of afternoons with yard work are great!! The birds chirping and Solomon taking in all the sights and sounds around him. And I think we might have a salad lover on our hands by the way he wanted to eat all the grass, haha, we can only hope!

weekly three.

April 22, 2016

It definitely doesn't feel like Friday around here... yesterday felt like a Monday for sure thanks to the vacation in Chicago and coming home on a Wednesday afternoon. My schedule is all messed up, but I love that the weekend is already here. That's never a bad thing. We have a relaxing weekend planned full of yard work for the husband and house work for me. All the things that need to be done after a couple weeks away. I honestly don't even mind, I'm just happy to be home!!

Not your typical Chicago pizza but these were incredible!
BBQ chicken with corn, cilantro and a sweet & tangy bbq sauce. Then the fig and prosciutto flat bread.
Both were so good but the BBQ chicken was insane!

Using my Jocie Pot for some wooden spoons in the kitchen.
Having a talented friend who takes custom orders for Birthday gifts is never a bad thing!

Red cheeked, sweaty hair & limp hands during naps... just a few of my favorite things.

Windy City.

April 21, 2016

It was a windy and chilly day on Tuesday but we still had so much fun sight seeing and eating our way through the beautiful streets of Chicago. We even went on a boat tour to see the gorgeous buildings from the water, even if it as a bit cold, it was worth it! Solomon stayed cuddled in our arms and even fell asleep nursing by the end of it. It was such a great day and we all woke up sore the next morning from all the walking (and some of carrying a heavy baby) we did!

cute thing napping on the busy streets...
his ability to sleep anywhere is one of my favorite things about him for sure!!

one of my favorite shots from the boat tour, love the reflections!

Solomon looks like he is saying, okay, enough pictures guys, lets go back to the hotel so I can play with my toys. Which is exactly what we did.... traveling with a baby can be hard at times but at least you get to rest when they do!!

I really do love Chicago so much. Especially since we got a peek at their summer weather one day. I would definitely pick Chicago over NY and Boston, but it has to come in second place after San Francisco, for sure!

family + chicago.

April 20, 2016

We are back from the beautiful city of Chicago and I'm excited to share some of the fun things we did. A big chunk of this trip was spent with family since Peter's cousin got married over the weekend. That was the main reason for going, but since my mom was coming to help out with Solomon so we could go to the reception baby-less, we decided to add a little vacation time since she'd never been. It was such a wonderful weekend and the weather was amazing most of the time! After the wedding fun was over, we switched hotels so we could be in the city for the rest of the trip. It was nice to enjoy the beautiful sunny day with family. I jokingly asked Peter if we could buy a summer condo in the city because it is so amazing and beautiful when the sun in shining!

I was super excited to finally make time to go see "the bean" and take some fun photos!

A lot of the cousins that stuck around for an extra day after the wedding or had a late flight monday night. It was great to have some extra family time since we don't get to see them that often.

After the pictures at the bean, we took a little walk over the bridge to the Maggie Daley Park to let the kids play. It was so fun to watch all the excitement on the many faces there. It was PACKED because of the gorgeous day!

Daddy taking Solomon down his first slide!! :)
More fun from Chicago tomorrow....
and it might even flow over into next week because I got a little camera happy!
