Dining Room Re-Do // Part Three

September 5, 2013

As mentioned on the Part Two post about the Dining Room, the pencil fan had to go so we have finally put him to rest { AKA, in the middle of the floor in the study } and I was very happy to see farewell.  I have had my eye on a chandelier from Home Depot for a while now and with the low clearance price we couldn't resist. Or I kindly reminded Peter long enough for a trip to go pick it up.... Either way, its up and working and I'm a happy lady.

^^^ a man that reads directions.... be still my heart!

The project took a little bit longer than expected but with the help of some friends the new lighting was completed. And of course we celebrated with pizza and beer... What else are you supposed to do when you successfully hang your first chandelier in your first house??? Yes, pizza & beer it is!

& speaking of beer, earlier this week Peter and I sat at the dining room table with our friend and videographer for our wedding. It was so wonderful  to take a few beer glasses from our kitchen cabinet and pour some of Peter's home brewed beer for our meeting. For the first time it felt like ours.

Our glasses. Our dining room. Our home. It really was so awesome and I have a sneaky feeling that this pretty blue room is going to be one of my favorites!

Traditions!

September 4, 2013

Whenever my family has a wedding we always celebrate with a fun lingerie shower for the bride. Since it was finally my turn for this tradition I was a little nervous but really excited at the same time. We all laughed way too much while having a delicious dinner and cupcakes thanks to my Mom.

^^^ We played a game where each guest put a new pair of panties that best represented them in a brown paper bag and then I had to guess who they were from...
Sadie Grace wanted to be a part of the game so she gave me a pull up. It was adorable!

^^^ My grandmother gave me some fun Ninja Turtles undies since I was slightly obsessed with them when I was a kid. We all died laughing when I actually picked her on the first try!

Such a wonderful night and these little ladies made it even better!! The whole night was so much fun and I'm so thankful for the women in my family. The big day is coming up so quickly and it was so wonderful to relax and spend some time with all of them.
I love my family and I'm so glad we can have fun together.

Thanks-Living // August

September 3, 2013

Everything is so exciting right now with the wedding plans coming together and it really is becoming so REAL! If I made a list of the things I am thankful for we would all be here for days... I feel like there are moments and people in my every day life that make me step back and think "is this really my life?!?" and I don't think I will ever get used to it.

I was recently talking to someone I only met once and when she heard that my wedding day was on September 28th she was shocked. She told me that I was way to calm for that to be true. I couldn't help but laugh because I seem to hear that a lot lately. If I had to pick one thing that I am thankful for in the month of August it would have to be His peace.

His way of calming me is amazing & His way of providing is unreal. Best of all, the person He put in my life to love me and make me the happiest lady around is something I always want to be thankful for. By the time I do my Thanks-Living post for September I will be married to my best friend which of course makes me super excited and of course, very very thankful!

Living Room Re-Do // Part Two

August 29, 2013

Several weeks ago I decided it was time to tackle the second project for the living room. The first was painting the walls and since that was a quick and easy job I was excited to do something a little more fun. When we first saw the house I loved the fireplace. I didn’t want to change it at all but the more we started adding new cool colors to the house the more the fireplace looked out of place. My mom had said from the start that we should do the white wash but I wasn’t so sure but after a lot of thinking and internet searching for DIY White Washing I decided to go for it! Thankfully with mom’s help {both on the fireplace and with pictures} we completed the job and I am so happy with it!!!

The room looks so much bigger and brighter thanks to the lighter color on the brick which was a huge plus. It didn’t take long at all and it honestly was a lot of fun and the steps are so easy….

1 // mix 2 cups of white paint with 1 cup of water. Stir vigorously with a paint stick until the paint is thinned out and it has a watered down glue consistency.

2 // tape off all the areas you wish to protect from the paint .

3 // brush the mixture on one piece of brick to test the color and with a dry, clean rag blot the paint off. If you want a darker white wash keep layering the paint on and blotting until you find the coverage you desire.
{ I didn’t want a lot of coverage so I only put one layer of paint and blotted quickly }

4 // stand back and enjoy!!

I will definitely enjoy this project even more once the gold framing for the fire place is spray painted black. I will be doing that pretty soon and you know I will share the fun with all of you!
