Sights + Seats // Iron Hill Brewery

May 3, 2018

Peter and I got to enjoy a date last night since our church community group was off this week. My mom always comes over to watch Solomon while we are at group, and we usually take Asher with us. Last night we decided to leave them both at home with Gigi, since she watched them both last Friday, and things went very well. It was nice to have a quick dinner date night at a new spot in town. My cousin actually text me about Iron Hill Brewery earlier this week after she attended a soft opening. I was surprised when I mentioned it to Peter because he had been to one of the PA locations several times while he was visiting for work. He said he enjoyed the restaurant there, and I was happy to make reservations for us, after I took a look at the menu!

Peter has been called a beer snob a time or two and he really liked the beer we ordered. We picked the Hipster IPA and it was so crisp and juicy! I love a good New England Style IPA and this one was delicious. We got their early enough to enjoy happy hour (5-7) which also included some apps for a great price. We chose the brussel sprouts and the pretzel sticks with mustard and beer cheese. The sprouts were very good but the pretzels weren't anything exciting. I compare all pretzels with beer cheese to Sierra Nevada now, and these definitely fell short. I'm glad we got to try some appetizers while they were at a discount during happy hour. I know we will come back to try some more on the menu soon, especially since you can enjoy the happy hour specials on the patio, as well.

Since the beer and pretzels filled us up a bit, we decided to share a burger and fries for our meal. We chose the drunk monk burger and the brie cheese was so good on it. The juice was running down my hand as I took my first bite. I can't wait to try their pimento cheese burger next time, when I don't have to share with Peter. He's not a fan of pimento cheese burgers but I always choose that if I see it on a menu.

Mmmm, date nights. So good + so needed!
I'm looking forward to several date nights this summer since my mom can watch both the boys for us. I'm hoping we can try several new spots in Greenville  and I can share more Sights + Seats posts. I really love writing these!!

We have been wanting to make it to 13 Stripes Brewery for Hymns & Hops for a while now but each month goes by and we haven't made the time. When my mom told me that the December H&H was going to be their one year Christmas celebration, I knew we had to go. It was such a fun night singing songs of worship and fun Christmas songs as well. I can't wait to go again in the spring once the weather is a little bit warmer and Asher will be a couple months old. It will be a fun family event for sure!

It was nice to have a true December weekend with snow and winter clothes!
This hat on Solomon was so cute, I loved it!!

daddy's day.

June 20, 2017

Father's Day was a good day for us! We went to church, Solomon had an epic nap while Peter and I watched an episode of House of Cards, and then we went to the new brewery in town so daddy could have a beer. It was a hot and beautiful day, and  13 Stripes was such a beautiful spot to spend the afternoon. Solomon and I are so lucky to have Peter to take care of us, so the least we could do is buy him a beer!

One of the things that I love most about Peter as a father, is how he uses every chance possible, to teach Solomon something. And it's even cuter how he doesn't make everything boring when he's doing it, he is a fun dad. I knew he would be, cause he is the most fun husband and friend, but seeing him as a dad makes me so darn happy. We really are lucky to have him!!

We love you, Peter!!!

AVL love + a lot of pictures.

Asheville is one of my favorite places to visit near by. We are so thankful it is a short drive away so we can make day trips on a weekend. We are also thankful that it is such a fun beer loving town. Peter and I are definitely fun beer loving people, so it makes us happy to go and try out some tasty brews when the weather is nice. The weather was absolute perfection on Friday, and since Diana had never been, we wanted to take the chance to show her around before she left to drive back home to Houston. We are trying to give her every reason possible to move close by. She loved Asheville, so I feel like we did a good enough job selling it. I have SO MANY photos below, just a warning. With the beautiful day and adorable city, it was hard to keep my camera put away....

We found this cute little shop almost instantly & we had a fun time testing out some of the honey. It was all delicious and I'm always a fan of local honey!

Solomon testing out the vanilla honey, it was pretty sweet so he was a fan.
He kept saying Mmmmmm, and more!

This sweet man started to sing a song and dance for Solomon, he wasn't sure what to think. It was so cute!

Our first stop for some beer and food was Wicked Weed Funkatorium! Peter and I have tried this place before & I always get excited to see what is on the menu. The beer is so good and the food is incredible. I am still dreaming about the flatbread that we had below. We will be heading back to Asheville in April for a little vacation with my mom and I can't wait to take her to try it out.

Solomon might be in love with boiled peanuts now....

Peter got Solomon dressed for the day and I didn't notice how short his jeans were until we were already on the road to Asheville. I picked out his clothes the night before so we could get ready and go quickly, but I had no idea that his jeans were highwaters already. He wore these last month with no problem. I guess it's hard to notice how quickly a toddler can grow when you see them everyday? We decided to roll them up to make jean capris so he could fit in with the hipster style of Asheville. He looked so cute walking around like this. He also wore himself out climbing and jumping outside Wicked Weed and finally crashed for a nap around 3pm.

The next stop was the Green Man Brewery. I have seen this place a lot but we have never been to visit. The wall below blew us away when we saw it. The picture really doesn't do it justice. It's gorgeous!

Diana loved walking around and checking out all the art. She mentioned several times how much she loved the murals and bright colors everywhere. We were walking back toward our car so we could get a bite to eat before the drive home when we noticed the beautiful bright colors in a huge open air glass blowing studio. We all agreed we had to go check it out. Lexington Glassworks should definitely be on your list of things to see in Asheville if you haven't been before. The detail in every piece was incredible!

And one last shot for Diana! She mentioned how the blue sky and this chapel reminded her of being in Europe... I wouldn't know since I've never been there, but I hope to go one day!!
I also hope that Asheville tugs on Diana's heart strings enough to make her come back, even if it's just for a visit! We loved spending so much time with our sweet cousin.
